DDS GMSP, MSF Basic RiderCourse (BRC)
The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Motorcycle Safety Program authorizes individuals who complete the H-D Rider's Edge® Academy of Motorcycling, New Riders Course a license waiver (no testing at the DDS office).
Course Details
The Rider's Edge® New Rider Course follows the proven curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Basic Rider Course tailored for beginning riders or those returning to the sport.
During the classroom interactive sessions, expectations will be set, you'll learn about the different types of motorcycles, their controls & operation, motorclothes for comfort & protection, how to create a strategy for riding in traffic & dealing with critical situations, and the basic skills to prepare you for the riding on the range. You'll find out how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to ride safely. You will also get a chance to trial fit different motorcycles & motorclothes, with a look into the Harley-Davidson & Buell lifestyle through the dealership.
DUring the range we'll start you off with familarization of the controls, clutch & throttle control, straight line riding, turning, shifting and stopping. Then, you will progress to more interactive and advanced street skills, slow speed tight maneuvers, braking, turning, and swerving techniques.
The course concludes with a Skill Evaluation and Knowledge Test

The Student Workbook and educational materials are sent to all registered participants with assignments to start your learning prior to the class start date.

What you are required to bring

A DOT approved helmet (3/4 open face or full face preferred).

Protective eye wear.

A heavy long-sleeved shirt and/or jacket.

Jeans, chaps, or leather pants.

Full fingered gloves (leather preferred).

Over the ankle, sturdy footwear (atletic or tennis shoes are NOT allowed).
The Schedule
Weekend is scheduled over five days, Thursday through Monday, almost every week during the training session February to December.

Weekday is scheduled over three days, Wednesday through Friday periodically.
Split weekend schedule over 5 days (designed to break-up the riding into 4 parts).

Attendance at each session is MANDATORY
The Benefits
You will receive approximately 30 hours in the classroom & on the range with expertly trained instructors that are committed to the sport of motorcycling.
Registered students are extended a one time courtesy discount of 10% on all regular priced MotorClothes® merchandise and helmets. After completing the course and passing both the skill evaluation and knowlege test, you'll receive:

A completion certificate suitable for framing.

GMSP and Harley-Davidson of Cartersville Rider's Edge® memorabilia.

A Georgia specific MSF RiderCourse Completion Card

You can present the imprinted completion card at the DDS after class (you have 90 days) to obtain your Georgia motorcycle operator endorsement (M class) with no further testing at the licensing agency.

This card may qualify you for a discount from your insurance provider.

For US Military personnel, it may fulfill your base safety requirements.
Class sizes are kept at 12 students to two instructors to help your learning process.
Instructors
All of our instructors are certified MSF RiderCoaches and Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program Instructors that have received additional training from the Rider's Edge® Harley-Davidson Academy of Motorcycling.
Tuition
The tuition for the entire course and all it's benefits is $325.00.
The tuition is required once you and a member of the Rider Education Department have agreed upon a class start date. Fill out the Pre-Registration Form and submit it to let us know that you are interested in a New Rider's Course. DO NOT WAIT - classes fill up fast and there may be a waiting list.
