New Rider Course Information

Georgia Department of Driver Services License Waiver Form (good for 90 days) to obtain your Georgia motorcycle operator endorsement (M class) with no further testing at the licensing agency.

  H-D Rider's Edge®, New Riders Course a license waiver is authorized by Georgia for motorcycle licensing.

Course Details

    The New Rider Course follows the proven curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Basic RiderCourse tailored for beginning riders or those returning to the sport.

    During the classroom interactive sessions, expectations will be set, you'll learn about the different types of motorcycles, their controls & operation, motorclothes for comfort & protection, how to create a strategy for riding in traffic & dealing with critical situations, and the basic skills to prepare you for the riding on the range.  You'll find out how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to ride safely.  You will also get a chance to trial fit different motorcycles & motorclothes, with a look into the Harley-Davidson lifestyle through the dealership.

    During the range we'll start you off with familiarization of the controls, clutch & throttle control, straight line riding, turning, shifting and stopping.  Then, you will progress to more interactive and advanced street skills, slow speed tight maneuvers, braking, turning, and swerving techniques.

The course concludes with a Skill Evaluation and Knowledge Test

  • New Rider Course students will learn to ride on an entry level light weight motorcycle provided by the dealership

What you are required to bring

  • A DOT approved helmet (open face or full face preferred).
  • Protective eye wear (regular glasses or sun-glasses).
  • A heavy long-sleeved shirt and/or jacket.
  • Jeans, chaps, or leather pants.
  • Full fingered gloves (leather preferred).
  • Over the ankle, sturdy footwear (athletic or tennis shoes are NOT allowed).

The Schedule

Classe scheduled almost every week during the training season February to December at two locations.

5-days, Thursday through Monday @ Earl Small's H-D, Marietta.

  • Thursday     5:30 pm - 9:00 pm / Classroom
  • Friday         5:30 pm - 9:00 pm / Classroom
  • Saturday     8:00 am - 6:00 pm / Range & Classroom
  • Sunday       8:00 am - 6:00 pm / Range & Classroom
  • Monday      5:30 pm - 9:00 pm / Classroom & Knowledge Test / Graduation

3-Day three, (3 full days) @ H-D of Cartersville.

  • 8:00 am - 6 pm each day / Classroom & Range, Testing & Graduation at completion.

4-days, Thursday through Sunday @ both dealerships.

  • Thursday    5:30 pm - 10:00 pm / Classroom
  • Friday        6:00 pm - 10:00 pm / Classroom
  • Saturday & Sunday 8:00 am - 6:00 pm / Classroom & Range / Knowledge Test-Skill Evaluation/Graduation

Attendance at each session is MANDATORY

The Benefits

You will receive approximately 25 hours in the classroom & on the range with expertly trained instructors that are committed to the sport of motorcycling.

Registered students are extended a one time courtesy discount of 10% on all regular priced MotorClothes® merchandise and safety gear.

After completing the course and passing both the skill evaluation and knowlege test, you'll receive:

  • A completion certificate suitable for framing.
  • Earl Small's H-D Rider's Edge® memorabilia.
  • A MSF RiderCourse Completion Card
  • The MSF Card can qualify you for a discount from your insurance provider.
  • The MSF Card can fulfill U. S. Military base safety requirements.

Instructors

    All of our instructors are certified MSF RiderCoaches and Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program Instructors that have received additional training from the Rider's Edge® Harley-Davidson Academy of Motorcycling.

Tuition

The tuition for the entire course and all it's benefits is $325.00.

The tuition is required to maintain your seat in the class  DO NOT WAIT - classes fill up fast and there may be a waiting list.

Skilled Rider Course

Even if have been riding for some time or never taken a riding course, there is always something new to learn. Let us help you hone your skills and fine-tune the mental skills needed for survival in traffic.

The Skilled Rider Course is designed for participants who have been riding & own their own motorcycle to enhance the following skills; control at low speeds, risk management, limited space maneuvers, cornering judgement, straight line stopping quickly and in a curve, swerving and stopping, and multiple curve maneuvers. As well, you'll discuss with your peers how to manage risk, increase visibilty, optimize lane position, protective gear, motorcycle inspection & care, rider responsibility and the effects of alcohol and other drugs on riding. The course concludes with a Skills Evaluation and a Knowledge Test.

What you are required to bring

  • A street-ready motorcycle
  • Valid motorcycle operator license, endorsement, or Learner's Permit "MP".
  • Proof of valid registration to your vehicle.
  • Proof of valid motorcycle insurance for your vehicle.
  • A helmet that meets DOT specifications.
  • Protective eyewear {sunglasses are recommended}.
  • A heavy long-sleeved shirt and/or jacket.
  • Leather pants, chaps over jeans or jeans.
  • Full-fingered gloves.
  • Over the ankle, sturdy footwear {athletic or tennis shoes are NOT allowed}.

    The Schedule

    The course scheduled is 1 day (8:00am - 6:00pm/Range/Skill Evaluation/Knowledge Test).

  • Attendance at each session is mandatory - if you miss any session for any reason, you'll have to reschedule so you can take the course from start to finish.

    The Benefits

    After completing and passing both the skill evalution and knowledge test:

  • A completion certificate suitable for framing.
  • Rider's Edge Program memorabilia.
  • May be eligible for a financial reimbursement from specific Motorcycle Groups.
  • A course completion card.
    • This card may qualify you for a discount from your insurance provider.
    • For DOD & U.S. Military personnel it may fufill your base saftet requirements.
  • We are an approved Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program facility.
    • Those individuals with "MP" motorcycle permit will recieve a Department of Driver Services [DDS] license waiver form to present at a DDS license facility {you have 90 days} to obtain your Georgia motorcycle operator endorsement [class "M"] with no further testing at the licensing agency.

    Tuition
    The tuition is $150.00 for MP holders. Those individuals with a Class M license receive a tuition discount.

    The tuition is required once you are registered in a class. Do not wait classes fill up fast and there may be a waiting list.
